How do I kill a rooster in a fast and non gore way?

Yes, its an awkward question but a rooster of mine is sick, he cant even stand up and has been like that for days and I want to stop his pain, thing is I havent killed a rooster before and I want to do it in a fast and non gore way, any advice?

The way that we used to kill our chickens for Sunday dinner was relatively non traumatic to either the birds or the killer. Chickens are rather simple minded. They are easily hypnotized. They will lay still in position while you chop off their heads. Here's how to proceed.



Hold your chicken in a prone position on the chopping block. Lower you finger toward the eye facing up. Move your finger in a circle while moving toward the eye. You can move your whole hand while doing it. When you get to about a half inch from the eye, move your finger out over the beak to a spot about a foot in front of the beak. Continuing pulling your hand now in an up ward direction. The bird will lay motionless for up to 10 seconds. Chop of its head. The chicken won't know it's coming. You won't feel nearly as bad as if you wrung its neck or broke it because in these two methods the bird will be struggling to survive. I never killed chickens where the others could see it. It. I never fired a gun at them. When the chicken gets excited and the adrenaline is running they get a different taste. You'll feel a lot better about losing you pet rooster doing it in a non traumatic way to your little friend.

Someone suggested shooting it in the head. You sound like a sensitive soul, so if you happen to have a .22 rifle, I would also suggest that you shoot it in the head. This is a very quick and painless procedure for all concerned. It seems a bit like overkill, but a bullet doesn't cost much when all is said and done. You would just have to hold the gun right to it's head and shoot it. That said, make sure to put the rooster somewhere where nothing is behind it for the bullet to ricochet off, as the bullet will go right through it's head.

Other than that, the best thing to do is chop it's head off, but that will be a bit more traumatic for both of you, but still quick. To chop off it's head, you will have to hold it on it's side with it's neck over a stump or something like that, and quickly chop through it's neck near the head with an axe.

There are any number of quick ways, but they would be the best, I think.

Logical but not reasonable.... umm. Well if you start with the right premise, the resurrection is logical but is it ever reasonable? In the 60s reasonable men pulled us back from nuclear annihilation 3 times when some men's logic advocated wiping out Cuba, which would have started our annihilation. Certain logic makes a case for war but it is not very reasonable. Preemptive war is the most unreasonable lame "Rooster" of the bunch. As for ignorance and bitterness ... well...Bitterness is usually the result of our expectations being disappointed. Those who know better reexamine their expectations to see if they are reasonable. Then adjust the expectations accordingly, the ignorant hang on to the unreasonable expectations til disappointment becomes bitterness.

The most humane way to dispatch the rooster is chloroform, put some in a plastic bag and tie the bag around the head. or you can use one of these methods.

Ugh hard question, I'd say the most painless way for it to go is shoot it in the head. It might be the a little gory but it's probably the best way for you both.

Snap his neck. be sure to do it properly though..it's quick and painless...

Seriously- you pull the neck up (chicken necks stretch) and then you twist hard and fast like your wringing a cloth....

Totally non-gory. Slip a noose around his neck, then swing him round and round till he stops breathing.
