Dosidicus giga, known as Humboldt squid, jumbo squid, flying squid, are found world wide, reach weights of 45 Kilos. It's the most common species sold as calamari steak. "lemon drop" squid are occasionally caught off Southern California, they're in the 2-5 kilo range. There are 2 or 3 other squid caught locally in this size range with various popular names. Giant squid, about 8 species of Archetuthedae, are the primary food of sperm whale, these may reach 300 Kilos. There are a lot of deep sea squid that have only been seen or photographed once or twice. The largest known, so far, is the Colossal Squid, one of these weighed 495 Kilos. There are about 300 known species of squid.

Who knows? The Kraken may actually be out there somewhere.

Well if any species weighed more than 3 kilos, the giant squid would definetly fall into it. Can't help you with the 2-3, tho. Not really a squid person. Collosal squids are actually supposed to be the largest...only about two feet larger, but still.

The slender inshore squid would be in the small category. There are 298 species of squid but you can get more info on the wikipedia and at a link there for tonmo website, like cephalopages. Colossal squid would be well over that cut off. Also opalescent squid is on the small side, and the European common squid, Loligo vulgaris. Also the Caribbean reef squid is quite small and the whiplash squid and Humboldt squid are quite large. Diamond-backed squid is quite large, over that cut off. Too many species to list individually. Good luck!!
