Why don't dogs eat dead dogs? I am in Iraq and seen many dead dogs and none have been. Others animals have.

Seen a dog lay on the side of the road for weeks next to a dead cow. The cow was gone with in a week the dog stayed there for about 3 weeks till someone moved it. So it is not a dog eat dog world...

Dogs are territorial animals, and they are also loyal to each others within their own pack, may be the body are protected some how from other meat eaters, such as the group has sprayed their urine around the body as threat to warn off other animals, including dogs from different territory.

Actually, if you want an accurate scientific answer it's because very few animals unless absolutely forced to will practice canibalism. Canibalism leads to various serious diseases and can usually only be induced to avoid abject starvation (even in humans if you recall the stories). Basicly, if you eat your own kind, your eating all the toxins stored in that body that could not be excreated. That means you are eating meat with toxins you can't excreate either.
The best example of this is mad cows disease. If you recall the reason this became prevelant in the UK and is feared in most the world is because we force farm animals to become canabilistic by creating protein feed from the remains of others of their kind. Although mad cow is specific to ungulates, similar diseases have been shown to exist in everything from ants (especially army ants) to reptiles to humans.

Animals usually do not eat members of their species. Something natural.
To Sahara, if you went there(Iraq) you will see hundreds of dead people scattered like dead dogs, how you feel.

I think it's because a lot of carnivores don't eat other carnivorous animals. I grew up in the country, and I always noticed that any herbivorous animal that died would be eaten very quickly by foxes etc. When carnivorous animals died, they pretty much only got eaten by maggots, and not other carnivores.
Hope that helps.

I guess it's because dogs are loyal and wouldn't eat their friends. Or maybe it's because dog meat tastes bad. Think about it, we eat cows, but we don't eat dogs. Why not?

That is awful. I'm so sorry. I'm glad that I'm not there because seeing all that would just break my heart again and again. Why are these animals dying?
