There are alsmost certainly more red kangaroos alive today than prior to European settlement of Australia. While many other species of smaller wallaby have become rare or extinct because of predation by foxes and cats and changes in the environment because off grazing and fire, red kangaroos have largely benefited by the establishment of permenant water supplies in what has historically been a country prone to droughts, and the improvemnent of pastures for cattle. Australians would be far better off eating Kangaroos than cattle, they are much better for the environnment, have less fat, cook more quickly and require much less water per kilogram.
