There are 20,000 species. All bees sting so be careful. The rule is if you don't bother them they won't bother you.

Removing a bees nest can be dangerous depending on the size. It can sometimes be like a scene out of a si-fi movie. First you have to identify the species of bee. The type of nest will help you do this. If it is a large nest, call pest control. Wasps can be practically nasty but they have those paper nests.http://images.google.com/images?sourceid=navclient&q=wasp+nest&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=X&oi=image_result_group&resnum=1&ct=title

My Dad use to have to put on his old HAZMAT suit and smoke the bees out so he could safly remove the nest. If the hive feels threatened they'll all come after you.

Yellow jackets generally make their nests in the ground, dead trees, stumps, etc. We have a variety of paper wasps here in central texas that look like a large yellow jacket. They sting like crazy, same as a yellow jacket. The only product I'll use on them or any wasp or hornet is "Ortho Hornet and wasp killer". It'll shoot 15 to 20 feet and foams the nest so it gets just about everything. Most of the other brands either don't spray well or stay liquid so it's hard to get coverage. So long as they keep their nests away from living and working areas I generally leave them alone as they're beneficial with fruit trees in keeping down harmful insects. The way to identify hornets is they're usually either reddish or black and they build an egg shaped paper nest with one hole for entry and exit. The nest always identifies them. If the paper nest is flat with members swarming over it, they're wasps. Either one will attack and the stings are quite painful. They can be deadly for those with allergies.
